Report

MARCH/APRIL Fishing Report Blow Blow Seminole wind. Does that sound familiar . Like the song the Florida winds have been The theme for most of the month of March. But on the days in between the fronts some good trout could be caught. The area just south of the river around Pine log and Hardy point have produced some really nice trout as well as the Dallus creek area to the north . Live shrimp under a Cajun thunder and BassAssassin grubs in Limetruse and Pearl Chartreuse tail Have been the main course . The sheepshead are at the Steinhatchee reef in good numbers. But the bite has been controlled by the tide. The last three hours of the outgoing tide has produced the best bite for me , With a slower bite after the tide turns to come in . Remember that you may have to re-anchor after the tide turns to be where you need to be on the scattered structure. Moving on the April This month promises some of the best fishing of the year. As the water warms into the 70. Deg. Range all kinds of good things start to happen. The pin fish make their return to the miles of grass flats that Steinhatchee is known for, And the trout will return from their hiding places with a big appetite. Along with The trout the Spanish Mackerel will be in full swing . Some areas that you may want to check out are, To The North the area known as little bank and the 9 mile rack area. To the South the flat off of Tater Island and the huge flat off of Bowlegs point . Drift a live pin fish under a Cajun Thunder or use a Saltwater Assassin grub under the thunder or fished on a jig head. One thing to remember is always use the lightest weight head that you can use and still keep in contact with the bait. Most of the time I use a Bass Assassin 1/8 oz. Head in the 2/0 size. This will work on all grub sizes except the 5” shad body where you need to use a 3/0 to 5/0 size hook to allow for the larger body. Screw lock hooks will also keep your grub from sliding down and will allow several fish to be caught before a bait change is needed. Remember that everything has limits, Keep what you need and leave some for your next trip. Hope to see you on the water. Capt. Mark
