Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Fellow Fishermen, This Friday afternoon, in early December, the seas are running 6-9 feet which gives me unexpected time to write a Christmas note. A note to say thank you and send good wishes of fishes. Every holiday season is a time of reflection for me, as with many others. Memories of this past year are best described as a blur of good times punctuated with smiles, good stories, and bent rods. Fish instigate the gathering, however people make each trip a memory. I have been sea-duced with fish fever from my beginning but have never given thought to becoming a commercial fishermen because the happiness isn’t in the fish; it’s in sharing the experience with others. Memories of my best fishing trips are wrapped around the people who were with me at the time. Some old memories are still vivid, yet I can’t recall the fish, if we caught fish at all. Sounds funny, but I remember my dad and I walking around some small bass ponds, when I was a boy, but have no recollection of a particular fish we caught. I just know we talked and shared a special slice of life on this pizza planet. Thanks for sharing a slice of life with me this year. To me, fishing is far more than collecting fish. If that was what is was all about, it would be far cheaper to go to the fish market. The celebrations, stories and remembrances can’t be bought at any market and last well past the fish fry. When you think about it, a fishing trip is kind of like Christmas. Follow me if you will... We anticipate the event with great expectations, checking the weather frequently and counting down the days like children waiting on Santa Claus. It’s a special time of family and friends coming together; it’s going to be a party. If your fishing with me, you get to take a sleigh ride with a fat man and an elf. Presents are wrapped in a thick layer of salt water we have to cut through with strong 60 pound test line to find out what they are. You never know what you’re going to get; you just keep tearing into the wrapper pulling up this and that. The one who gets the biggest prize is envied by the rest. Regardless of how many presents were under the tree, it turns out to be a hoot just being together. We’re sad when it ends yet look forward to the next time around when we get to experience Merry Fishmas again. I appreciate our time shared and look forward to the next adventure. In the meantime, have yourself a merry little Christmas. Take special care Capt Brian, Gina and Lil B
